Last weekend my daughter and I traveled to Waynesboro, Virginia to attend a baby shower for my son and daughter-in-law. (Did I tell you I was going to be a grandmother?) We left on Thursday after Sarah had worked for a half-day, and at the motel there was a USA Today for the taking. When I opened up the paper to the entertainment section, there was a full-page article about the new movie "Evan Almighty." A sequel to "Bruce Almighty", this movie is being filmed in Waynesboro and the surrounding area.
When we drove through town, I noticed new street lights and a freshening of the city. When I mentioned it to David, he said, "Mom, they're filming "Evan Almighty"here." Duh. I asked him why he didn't get a part. He said he thought about it, but it only pays $8.00 an hour, so he declined.
The newspaper said that an ark of biblical proportions was being built in Crozet, a community about 12 miles from Waynesboro. Off we went on Saturday afternoon to see it. There it is right in the middle of a subdivision that is being developed. As you can see in the second photo, there is a brand new house right beside it. David said that the film company is paying the people's mortgages while they're there.
There was a steady stream of cars driving by. When we stopped, the guard said, "Hurry up and take your picture."
So we did.
I was reminded of a trip I made to Philadelphia to visit some missionary friends from Haiti a few years ago. David was interning at Carpenter Technology in Reading PA, and we met him for lunch in Lancaster. After David left, Shirley and I went to the Millenium Theater and saw the production of Noah. The first half of the play is the building of the ark. At the end of the first half, Noah and his family and the animals walk up the center aisle and enter the ark.
As the second half starts, you're inside the ark with Noah, his family, and all the animals. The rain and thunder starts, and the people who had mocked him, are pounding on the ark, hoping to gain entrance.
After the rains stop, and the waters recede, Noah and his family come out of the ark. As they are coming out, the sides of the ark fall away, and the cross is left standing. I had goosebumps throughout the production. Realizing that the ark in the Old Testament was a foreshadowing of Christ, who is our ark of safety.
If you ever have the opportunity to see a production there, it is not to be missed.

Very interesting read. That ark looks enormous.
My cousin had a small part as an extra in a movie being filmed in the Napa Valley and the pay was excellent! Also the food and limo rides to and from his home were quite nice!
Surprising that in PA the pay was barely above minimum wage!
cool pictures!
have a great day,
The little town where I'm from in Ky was the backdrop for the movie "In Country" back in the 90's...they made their own replica of one of the local restaurants Bruce Willis and his then wife Demi Moore were in town and she had a baby girl in the local hospital and named her Rumor because of the many rumours that floated around the town about it all...and the actress I forget her name but she was Australian but she somehow faked a Ky accent~ is seen jogging all through the town...the language is not the best on it...kind of upset me a little bit because that was not in our local author Bobbie Ann Mason's book and I knew nobody in the 90's that talked like that just straight out without going to the alter at church and repenting in tears and anguish... but that is Hollywood for ya!!
Hi Beverly: I heard that you were up in VA last week from Steve and Jill. They said the Ark was amazing. I'm actually from York which is next to Lancaster and when I was high school we went over to Sight and Sound to see "noah." As you said it is quite incredible. They have had several interesting productions in the last few years- my mom has seen a few.
Hope you're doing well!!
(still no new job)
Becki
Nyssa and I have been to that production. Mom and Dad went first and loved it. They got tickets for us to all go one summer but just before our trip the theater burned down. It took a year for them to re-build but we finally made it. It felt so much like being in the ark, you could have almost gotten seasick. :) My favorite animal was Noah's dog. Unbelievable training in all the animals.
Congrats on the impending arrival of your grandchild. Such a great wonderful event to behold. Always is and always will be.
Such neat pictures of the ARK!
Great pictures! Congratulations on your impending mamaw status! :o)
OH HOW FUNNY! I LOVE the thought that the movie company is paying the people's mortgages while filming! they can come and build an ark in my backyard ANY time! Thanks for stopping by!
If we get anymore rain here, I could sure use that ark!!
That is one big boat! Great story!
What a great visual aid to an awesome Bible story!
Wow.. the replica of the ark being built is quite impressive.
That ark is amazing. Our son would be so proud: his name is Noah, and he loves anything that is ark-themed.
Oh, to be five years-old again.
I just did a post called "Build an Ark?". Sue read your post just before mine and directed me here. It's a neat story and your pictures are great. That is pretty bizzare that the film company is paying people's mortgages.
I love that song. Used to sing it with my Sunday School class and at Vacation Bible School.
Noah sounds like a wonderful production. Wish I'd had the chance to see it.
Now that's pretty cool. The magnitude if it is incredible. WOW *Ü*
Sorry, I think I missed something.
Tell me again why they are building this ark?
