Several years ago when we went to Chicago for Pampered Chef® conference, the city was celebrating "Cows on Parade." Perhaps you saw them or read about them. Everywhere you looked there were life-sized cows that had been creatively adorned. I believe that after the session was over, the cows were auctioned off, for charity, I assume.
One year when my consultant friend and I went to Chicago, we had tickets for a Cubsu-White Sox game at Wrigley Field. I know that to some of you, you might say, "so?" but we were elated. The reason we were able to get tickets at all was that our seats were behind a post...but we were on the third base line. Seated among about six young men (all Cubbies fans except for one,) we had the time of our lives. Such fun! The Cubs won, but it was a game where you didn't know until the end who was going to win. Sammy Sosa hit a home run; Frank Thomas hit a home run that I am sure is still traveling out in space...and just to be at Wrigley Field was an experience.
As I recall, the Donald was there to sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." Pretty bad.
Anyway, this year on our stay in Chicago we decided to have dinner at Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse. Another fun experience. Lots and lots of baseball memorabilia to enjoy, and yes, this cow with his signature glasses. Holy cow! If you don't know who Harry Caray is, never mind. I know AC knows, as does Tom.
Srp mentioned in a comment that her brother had stayed in one of the round buildings on the river when he was in Chicago singing opera. This must be the one. There are two of them, and if you look closely, you can see the cars parked in the bottom of the building. These are affectionately (or not) called the "corn cob buildings."

these posts are so interesting...corn cob buildings...lol!
:-D
You can see why they are referred to as corncobs! Interesting post..
I am so enjoying your Chicago posts and the photos. Those cone buildings are very neat.
Corn cob indeed and what a view from the upper floors.
Ah, Harry. I miss the ol coot. I even watched his funeral live on WGN. You'd think a president had died or something. He lived life large and could be cantankerous but I miss him all the same.
hi Beverly,
sounds like you had some fun there :)
and the buildings do look like, corn cobs, ;)
and thank you for the visit,
take care
I'd love that restaurant experience and the Wrigley Field tickets too.
Now I listen to Skip and Chip Caray, son and grandson of the Late Great Harry. What a baseball tradition and Skip is just so, so funny in his delivery. I really dislike the ESPN guys and can tolerate but do not love the Fox Sports dudes.
Are those the buildings you can see from the bridge? Seems like you are closer than I remember being, but I do think I've been near there.
In our town there were dozens of bear sculptures all decorated and all over town like these cows.
Pondering Penguin is a great read, isn't she.
Wrigley is a definate treat! You only need to be a fan of baseball to enjoy a game there! Got to say that's one stadium I've been to ~ well, being a Milwaukee native, Chicago is a mere suburb to us! KIDDING!
Thanks for your comment earlier, I was surprised to have someone, besides my friend Steve, post a comment who actually is familiar with this area. Unfortunately, I have to work in the Ranch - yuk!
Looks like you had a good time in Chicago, I was there to see Cows on Parade (even bought a little one), in fact, I may have even crossed paths with you there! Even if it was on the cement pasture of Michigan ave!
Cheers!
