"Yes," I said. "The baby is healthy," he said. "Yes," I said. He made me ask what the sex is. It's a GIRL. Everyone in the family had been thinking boy. We are rejoicing that this is a healthy baby girl...and then there are my friends who were told by the doctor that their baby was a girl. They went home and told their son that he was getting a brother, and when they went home from the hospital, they took Amy home,''
Some sad news in our family of friends here. A pastor's 29 year old son is in the hospital in North Carolina with stage three testicular cancer. He was at work two weeks ago and started having bad headaches and his speech became garbled. His coworker took him to the hospital, they did a scan and found swelling in the brain, kept him a few days on medication, and sent him home to finish the course of medicine.
On Sunday his side began to hurt and he went back to the hospital. They did surgery on Monday to remove a tumor from the brain. They were not able to remove all of it. He has tumors in his lungs and his liver.
A course of chemotherapy was begun today. Pray for Ben when you think of him, and for his family. His father just buried his own mother a month ago, and his mom's father is not doing well. Ben's parents were missionaries with Wycliffe for many years, and they buried a baby over there.
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Refrain
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
Refrain
My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
Refrain
For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.
Refrain
But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!
Refrain
And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.
Refrain
Hymnals don't have all these verses in the books. I found this at cyberhymnal.org.

Testicular carcinoma, at least some types can be very responsive to treatment. Lance Armstrong had this with metastatic disease. They might want to research this as I think he had some specialized treatment at Indiana University.
So, do your son and daughter-in-law have names already picked out?
I want to get a couple of book titles for you that I used with the diabetes diet I made up for my mom that talked about the glycemic index. I really think this is a much better approach than the classical exchange diet used in the past. It is much less confusing to me.
Oh, and when a diabetic is in the hospital. Please don't assume that the dietary department knows what they are doing. When Mom had her knee done last fall I learned that the hospital dietary idea of a "diabetic diet" was simply to replace the packs of sugar on the trays with sweet-n-low. The bread, potatoes, rice and pasta were still included. I was amazed and appalled.
Glad that you will be a gandmaw,
and will be praying for Ben and his Family!
take care
