Ella's appointment

Ella had an appointment with the cystic fibrosis specialist yesterday. My daughter-in-law said that they spent four hours at the doctor's office, meeting with the nurse, the doctor, the respiratory therapist, and nutritionist. She had her oxygen level tested and was weighed and measured, had a throat culture and two x-rays.

What a day for a baby! and her mother! It was a very hard day for my daughter-in-law as she pretty much saw Ella's future laid out before her. She did find out that her body is producing some of the enzymes naturally but not enough to take her off the enzymes. She'll be tested again in a year to see if the level has dropped which may be the case.

They are beginning to perform chest Pt on Ella twice a day. There are six different positios and they have to "thump" her for three minutes in each position. The respiratory therapist said to plan about a half hour for each session.

As I said after we had heard her diagnosis, this blog won't be just about Ella and CF, but it is so heavy on our hearts. When you read and look at pictures of Ella and the parents, pray for them or send good thoughts their way. Thanks. Posted by Picasa

Tammy is so right (and isn't it wonderful to see her out and about again?)
Your blog should be just the way you want it to be and we know that Ella is a very big concern right now (as well as a
beautiful little girl to brag about!)
Still praying for her and your family!

I will be happy to pray for that precious little girl (the third "Ella" I have read about today). Her daddy sure is handsome!

Yours is a handsome family indeed. Consider the prayers and good thoughts done, my friend.

And thanks for the recommended blogs. I did, in fact, enjoy them both.

Ella could not have been blessed with more loving parents... that is obvious. Oh, and a very loving grandmother as well. We keep her and her parents in our prayers.

Thanks as always for the kind comments on the blog. They are always appreciated. Yes, we loved living in Lafayette, LA for almost 13 years. We moved there in Dec, 1985 and we bought our first house then. We had to move up to Dallas as the oil biz crashed just as we moved in and then came back to Lafayette in 1988. Our son was born there in 1989. We purchased our second home not long after that and I spent my "mid life crisis" years throwing myself into helping open the Childrens Museum of Acadiana downtown. My son's photo is one of the children's photos used in the opening day posters and publicity! I have them framed in my home now. We loved our life there, it is a great place to raise children. And, yes, Guidry is a very common Cajun name!

Such a good looking and happy family. Love the photo of all three smiling faces. It tugs at the heart to know the struggle that Ella will have to overcome. But with the Lord at her side, no struggle is too great. She has so much going for her! All my prayers will continue to include your son, daughter-in-law and little Ella and of course you!

What a beautiful young family they are. Somehow it just does not seem fair that they have to deal with all of this.. especially wee Ella. But, over many years, I have come to realize that fairness frequently just does not enter into the equation. I know both of these young parents and this darling child will grow many strengths from their reality. They will be in my prayers. As will be their grandma.
