For whatever reason, our temporary choir director has selected arrangements of hymns yes, real live hymns, and I was so comforted tonight by his choice. The last few days have been hard, going from wondering if Ella has CF, to hearing yesterday that her diagnosis was confirmed. I feel sorry for my kids, particularly for Ella, who is after all the one who has this disease, and then for myself. My tears have flowed, as have those of my daughter Sarah, but particularly David and Sabrina.
This Sunday we are singing for our choir selection "How Firm a Foundation." Such wonderful words...
How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?
In every condition, in sickness, in health;
In poverty’s vale, or abounding in wealth;
At home and abroad, on the land, on the sea,
As thy days may demand, shall thy strength ever be.
Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen and help thee, and cause thee to stand
Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.
When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of woe shall not thee overflow;
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.
When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.
Even down to old age all My people shall prove
My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love;
And when hoary hairs shall their temples adorn,
Like lambs they shall still in My bosom be borne.
The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.
His grace is sufficient for every need. Hallelujah!

I love hymns myself...worship teams are OK but sometimes you just need a good old fashioned hymn!
This one is truly inspired and picked just for you dear friend!!
:-D
Our church for some reason does not sing these great hymns of substance. We favor the schmaltzy milktoast hymn. Bleeech!
Nothing happens by coincidence, Beverly. The Lord knew you needed this message of stability.
I hope this music comforts you..

I think that says it all Beverly.

This is absolutely one of my FAVORITE hymns. I find myself singing or humming these in the shower. I wish the churches would get back to these. They describe so well the power, omnipotence and love of God and in these times we certainly need to look to Him. There is nothing we can do, no one we can elect, no human answer to the world's trouble, except Christ. I know that isn't a "politically correct" statement, but it is a TRUE statement.
One old hymn that has been running through my head for a week now is In the Garden
I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear,
falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.
CHORUS:
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
The chorus especially touches my heart.
John17:9
Jesus said,
I pray for them:I pray not for the world,but for them which you have given me.For they are mine.
The king of Kings and the Lord of Lords is praying for your grand daughter.That is awesome!
xxxooo to her from the love of Jesus.
